— "I'll never get out of this world alive."

So goes the refrain of a song written by country music legend Hank Williams, Sr....Amusing as these words are, they are so true, and the song reveals an attitude that I'm afraid is all too common among people. Read more

So Many Hypocrites!

It has been said so many times, "I wouldn't think of becoming a Christian; there are too many hypocrites!"

How true! The world is full of hypocrites. You can find them in:

  • Politics — Does that keep you from voting?
  • Sports — Does that keep you from watching the games or following the scores?
  • The entertainment world — Does that keep you from watching television or viewing the latest movies?

How about this: Counterfeit currency exists, but does that cause you to reject money altogether?

There is a big difference between real Christians and those who are only Christians in name.1 The word "Christian" signifies one whose life is patterned after Christ. Some folks only say they are Christians; others (the real ones) show by their lives that they are true believers and followers of the Lord Jesus Christ.

We are not trying to ignore or justify hypocrisy; it is a most regrettable reality. Christ Himself used very strong language when he denounced religious hypocrisy (see Matthew 23:13-33.) One must be careful, however, not to use hypocrisy as an excuse for rejecting God's message of salvation! God does not ask you to believe in Christians, He asks you to believe in Jesus Christ. Our relationship to God should never be governed or hindered by the failures of others.

And have you ever thought about the fact that men only counterfeit what is real and valuable? Counterfeiting things that are cheap or worthless would be a pointless activity.

Romans 14:12 says: "So then, every one of us shall give account of himself to God." (emphasis added.) One day you will be called to "give account." What do you suppose God will think of your objection, "I never took the Bible seriously because there are so many Bible-toting hypocrites"?
