Christmas: the Purpose

At Christmas each year we celebrate the night that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was born as a human baby. Amidst all the activity, it is good to take some quiet moments to reflect upon why He came to earth. Here is a concise explanation directly from the Bible; we hope this truth has been realized in your life:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. But, through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.

It was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and through whom are all things [God the Father], in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings. [Jesus Christ]

Since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

We rejoice that in our Creator and Savior, we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace

– Genesis 1:1, 31; Romans 5:12; Hebrews 2:10, 14-15 (NIV); Ephesians 1:7 (NIV)
